This term our modules consisted of
ethnic media representation,
journalism writing and media law,
iconic status and stardom and
media practice1.
For
media practice1 we had to go to
Coleg Glan Hafren. We were set a task of making a
video and
radio piece that would be used to introduce
new students to
UWIC in an imaginative way informing them of issues that may be helpful to them. Tiffany and I decided to do a video and
radio piece on
date rape and drinks being spiked.
Ethnic media representation consisted of lectures and screenings where we watched films such as In The Name Of The Father by Jim Sheridan and My Beautiful Laundrette by Stephen Frears, followed by an 100% exam.
Iconic status and stardom was a research project. I chose to research the
punk movement, producing a
project focusing on why the
punk movement was an '
icon' with particular reference to
The Sex Pistols and
The Ramones etc.
Journalism writing and
media law consisted of lectures teaching us the rules about law in regards with the
media, with topics such as
slander and
copyright.
Journalism writing taught us how to write in a
journalistic style in different methods such as
gig reviews and
feature articles.
